ICYMI, Step Out Buffalo & WNY Artists are teaming up to bring you a new limited edition, Buffalo-born design benefiting a different local charity each month.
September’s collaboration features Western New York artist Edreys Wajed, a partner of Eat Off Art, a multi-dimensional agency, platform and affirmation all-in-one, providing transformative experiences through creativity and art. The Buffalo native boasts a toolbox chock-full with talents and experiences ranging from a visual artist, jewelry designer and musical entertainer, to an educator and entrepreneur with notable recognitions respectfully in each. Edreys is most recently recognized locally for his contribution as an artist on the Freedom Wall which features 28 civil rights dignitaries, seven of whom he painted with his unique style and use of line. Additionally, Edreys is an Artist of the Year finalist for the 2020 Spark Awards.
That Design Tho
Our September design, titled “BFLO WINS” is a derivation of the LOVE WINS phrase that Eat Off Art has been showcasing on apparel for some time now.
As lifetime residents and natives of Buffalo, we’ve constantly endured all of the jokes and puns particularly surrounding the notion that our professional sport teams have yet to close the deal on a championship, despite being so close for decades. We determined that there are two words that unanimously light the city ablaze without fail on game days and that’s “Buffalo Wins.”
The crown represents the city’s moniker of being the “Queen City.” There are 17 tally marks representing 17 counties. The lighting bolt represents electricity or The City of Light. The design’s finishing touch features the longitude and latitude of Buffalo.
“BFLO WINS” is featured on a variety of apparel and accessories including adult t-shirts, tank tops, long sleeves, crewnecks, and hoodies as well as youth and baby items for the entire month of September. Accessories include face masks and jumbo tote bags.
For a Great Cause
This month a portion of each and every item sold will benefit The International Institute of Buffalo, an organization that has worked to integrate foreign born Western New Yorkers since 1918. Their mission is to make Western New York a better place for, and because of, refugees and immigrants. They welcome, connect and empower the foreign born, and encourage the region’s support for different cultures by providing direct services to survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence; recently arrived refugees; and WNY’s growing immigrant community.
