This local business pairs two of our favorite things – books and food. The concept behind this bookish foodie subscription box–Read It and Eat, is to create a sensory experience while supporting a good cause.

Each box in this quarterly subscription has its own theme and comes with a gently-used book, food and other bookish goodies from a small/local/BIPOC business, and a donation matching program.

Read It and Eat was created by Kim after seeing the rise of book subscription boxes booming during the pandemic. Kim was looking for books about what she loved, FOOD, but she didn’t want cookbooks, she wanted to learn, and also wanted to taste and try new products that supported small businesses.

The first box ever created was a bread-themed box launched last October for the holiday season. This year, as part of the quarterly subscription, subscribers will receive 4 unique boxes, the lemon-themed Spring box being box 1 of 2021.

A special Persian-themed box was also created as a bonus box. This box honors Kim’s persian roots and is dedicated to her father, who passed from pancreatic cancer in January.

This Persian Book Box came with a Graphic Novel Memoir by Marjane Satrapi called Persepolis, an Ajil Celebration Persian Trail Mix from Niloofar, and Persian food posters from Little Persian Learning. This box is a great introduction to rich Middle Eastern culture surrounding food.

The second box of 2021 (remember, 4 boxes a year) is ice cream themed! Ice cream box in the summer, Yes please!

This Summer Ice Cream Box includes Sweet Spot written by Amy Ettinger, caramel sauce and hot fudge from Coop’s MicroCreamery, sprinkles by Confectionery House, and a themed bookmark made by local Buffalo-business, Spark Marks! The best part? Every purchase supports local organizations. Most recently, Kim donated 50 jars to Feed WNY for their peanut butter drive. That’s a jar per box sold. So your purchases helped their peanut butter drive!

Want in? Make sure you order your box by August 1! You can purchase a box on its own or subscribe for quarterly boxes.
