Lucky for WNY, drive-in movie theaters are allowed to open as of Friday, May 15. The Transit Drive-In has been keeping Western New Yorkers informed about their opening status and what to expect via their Facebook page. Below find details about how to purchase tickets, what will be showing, times, and more. For continued updates visit Transit Drive-In’s Facebook page.

Update: May 11th

“Here is the update on our opening status. It has been a long day, and there were many difficult decisions to make, while keeping in balance our desire to serve the community with our obligation to keep our guests and our staff safe.

The risk mitigation measures listed below will be in effect for the immediate future, but are subject to change as we become accustomed to the “new normal” and receive further guidelines from local health officials. It will be a difficult process for everyone, and we are going to try our best to provide as safe of an environment as possible, while preserving as much of the drive-in experience as we can.

We humbly request everyone to be patient with us as we implement these new policies, and to be cooperative with our staff.

We will be announcing our movie lineup on Tuesday. First, we want everyone to take time to review our operational changes. It will be an ongoing process, but our top priority will be the safety of our guests and our staff. Everything else will be secondary. Here we go:

ATTENTION: Purchase of tickets to Transit Drive-In obligates all guest to agree to and abide by our rules of conduct stated below. Any guest who fails to comply with any of those conditions, at the discretion of management, will forfeit their right to remain on the premises, and will be ordered to leave without a refund.

Changes are due to COVID-19 restrictions from local and state health officials. Please review these notes and FAQs.

For the immediate future, all ticketing will be through internet pre-sale only. Ticket sales will not be available at the ticket window until further notice.

Please purchase tickets for all occupants of each vehicle under one transaction. No multiple transactions for one vehicle, or multiple vehicles under one transaction. Please keep it simple in order for our cashiers to keep the entrance lines moving smoothly.

No refunds on pre-sale ticket purchases. No exceptions.

All parking is designated by theatre attendants. Management has final authority over where you may park.

Smoking and vaping is prohibited in the parking areas, and around all buildings. Designated smoking areas are located on the grass along the outside perimeter of the parking area. Please be considerate of other guests by not smoking or vaping in the parking area.

To comply with social distancing guidelines, all vehicles must park no closer than 6 feet from the vehicles parking next to you.

If you decide to sit outside of your vehicle, you must remain at least 6 feet away from the vehicles parked next to you. Face masks must be worn at all times when sitting outside of your vehicle.

Same night re-admission is not permitted. Patrons leaving the drive-in will be charged full admission price to re-enter, whether on foot or inside a vehicle.

For the safety of our guests and staff, in order to reduce restroom usage, we will not be showing bonus features at this time. We are offering single features only, until further notice.

The playground area is closed until further notice. Please keep children supervised and inside your vehicle at all times, with the exception of bathroom breaks.

Patrons must remain inside or near their vehicles at all times, except for bathroom breaks, visits to the snack bar, smoking area, or to walk your dog. All guests must wear a face mask when outside your vehicle until further notice.

Please limit snack bar visits to one person per vehicle due to social distancing restrictions. We are working on providing an app for ordering food from the snack bar. The snack bar lobby will be limited to 10 people or less at a time until further notice. There will be monitored social distancing lines outside of the snack bar lobby. All guests must wear a face mask when visiting the snack bar until further notice.

Restroom use will be available for emergency use only, one patron at a time, until further notice. An adult may accompany a young child to use the restroom if necessary. Attendants will be sanitizing each restroom stall between use with hospital grade disinfectant. There will be monitored social distancing lines outside of the restroom area. All guests must wear a face mask when visiting the restroom until further notice.

We hope that these measures will only be temporary, and that sometime soon the world will return to how it was before Covid-19. There will be a weekly review of each guideline, and some may become more relaxed as we receive more feedback from local and state health officials.

Please take into consideration that if we do not enforce social distancing guidelines, we may be forced to close. We will need the full cooperation of our guests in order for this to work. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and for continuing to support the drive-in.”

Update: May 12th

“Beginning Friday, May 15, we will be open every night!

We are limiting the movie selection this weekend to two movies, so that we will be able to spread more vehicles out over multiple screens. One movie will be showing on up to three screens if necessary, while the other movie will be showing on up to two screens if necessary. Which movie is shown more screens will depend on anticipated demand for each movie.

Showing May 15-21:

Screen 1 will be showing Trolls World Tour, rated PG, starting at 8:45 PM as a single feature.

Screen 2 will be showing The Invisible Man, rated R, starting at 8:45 as a single feature.

Tickets will only be available through advance internet sales until further notice. Tickets for May 15-21 will go on sale beginning on Wednesday, May 13, at noon. When the allotment of tickets has been sold is equivalent to 50% or our parking capacity, the internet ticketing app will indicate that the movie is sold out.

The gate will open this week at 7:00 PM on Friday and Saturday nights, and at 8:00 PM on Sunday through Thursday nights. Internet ticketing will guarantee a parking spot, but it is still important to arrive early to get a good parking space, and reserving parking space for another guest is not permitted.

Our website is currently being updated, and will be live by noon tomorrow. The link for internet ticketing will be posted here on our Facebook page, as well as on our website. If a sellout occurs, it will be indicated by the ticketing app.

Under normal circumstance, we do not open the drive-in during the middle of May on four days notice, so while things may appear disorganized, we will be ready by Friday and do the best we can. At 50% capacity, it should be manageable, as long as everyone cooperates with our social distancing guidelines. Thank you for continuing to support the drive-in, and we will see some of you soon for our opening weekend of movies and social distancing under the stars!”
