Walking into Providence Social for the first time during restaurant week, I was impressed by the style and atmosphere. A live band played relaxing background music causing no disruption to nearby conversations. We cozied into our table, taking in the romantic vibe of the dimly lit restaurant.
They have a wide variety of menu items to choose from. Their LRW deal offered 3 small plates from a decent list of options. We decided to order 6 different plates to share, and added $10 to the bill to add two craft cocktails. The Asian Fish Tacos ($12) are made of beer battered sole, marinated ted red cabbage, and bok choy sesame slaw. The French Onion Dumplings ($9) were fried and crispy, packed with caramelized onions, provolone, gruyere cheese, and served with a side of French onion broth for dipping. The Red Neck Eggrolls ($9) are stuffed with BBQ pulled pork, braised collard greens, red cabbage, root vegetables, and a sweet and spicy “dirty” chili sauce. The Panko Crusted Goat Cheese ($11) was creamy and warm, served with a spicy tomato pesto. The Crème Brulee Trio, a delicious finale to the meal, was a sample of original, strawberry, and banana crème brulee.
I admired the attention to detail, as well as the different flavor and texture combinations in each dish. But one plate in particular stood out from the rest in my opinion. The dish you just have to order when you go to Providence Social is the Stuffed Poblanos ($9). The pepper is fire roasted and filled with aged cheeses, stone cut olive panko crust and smothered in a roasted red pepper chipotle cream sauce. Some stuffed peppers are so unbelievably spicy that you can’t appreciate the other ingredients because you’re too busy gulping down water. Providence Social’s pepper brought just the right amount of heat the plate, so I could still taste the flavors in the stuffing. Plus, it comes with a few pieces of bread for dipping into the warm stuffing. You should probably order two for good measure. My compliments to the chef!
