What: Tart Cherry and Blue Pizza
Where: Medici House in East Aurora
East Aurora houses quaint cafés, shops and restaurants. I’m from the Northtowns and love heading down there on a day off to explore the sometimes unusual, but fantastic, finds at Vidler’s on Main Street. I mean, I just found butter lamb and pierogi charms at Vidler’s and turned it in to a necklace. Come on, where else will you find charms like that?
Although I can go on-and-on about Vidler’s, I simply must mention the dish I tried after an evening of shopping. Medici House has a long list of specialty pizzas, some unique and some traditional. Hands down, one of the most delectable pizzas I’ve ever tried is their “Tart Cherry and Blue Pizza”. The fluffy crust is topped with gooey mozzarella, olive oil, garlic, caramelized onions, zesty red sauce, crisp bacon, tart cherries, blue cheese and arugula ($10.50 for personal size and $18.50 for a large). The flavor profile of this pizza just worked. The strong flavor of the blue cheese and arugula, the salty crisp bacon, the sour flavors of the cherries, the sweetness from the onions created the most appetizing pizza. Pair the pizza with a pour of sweet wines or a powerful red to compliment the strong flavors on the pizza. Believe me when I say, this is a must try!
