Whenever I leave the relatively new Griffon Gastropub on Transit Road, rarely am I disappointed. From their cheesy crab dip to their chicken and waffle sandwich, Griffon’s is serving up quality cuisine to their customers. Some time ago while visiting, I overheard a server explaining the kangaroo burger to another table. Unfortunately they ended up being sold out of it for the night, but lucky for me on a more recent visit to Griffon Pub the game burger happened to be kangaroo and I was all in.
The Wild Game Burger ($15) varies depending on the day. The burger patty can be made from kangaroo, elk, boar, duck, venison, yak, bison, ostrich and more, so if you have a certain burger in mind that you’d like to try I would suggest calling ahead to find out which burger they have that day. The kangaroo burger came out between toasted buns, piled high with lettuce, tomato, bacon, warm goat cheese, a fried egg, savory sauce, and fried onions.
Kangaroo is quite lean, similar to venison with a very strong gamey flavor resembling lamb. The flavor combination created an incredible compilation of flavors in one bite. Pair that burger with a side of gouda shells (worth the upgrade from fries, trust me) and let the food coma commence. This dish is worth a trip to Griffon Gastropub and a try.
