With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, the release of uber-chocolaty beers is upon us. If you’re looking for a beer (or two, or three) to share with your valentine, here are some options to keep in mind:
Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence: Belgian yeast gives this brew kind of a Chocolate Stout/Belgian dark strong hybrid – a dark fruit kick.. A 7% ABV smoothes out the swallow on this beauty.
Samuel Smiths Organic Chocolate Stout: This chocolate-flavored import’s down-right sensible at 5.0% ABV—and perfect for the date who eats strictly organic.
Rogue Chocolate Stout and Double Chocolate Stout: A dose of oats in these brews softens the mouth-feel of this always-available chocolate beer; the double version has a bit of honey. Both bottles are dressed in a limited-edition Valentine’s Day red for the holiday.
Ellicottville Chocolate Cherry Bomb: With this local favorite you get it all – it’s a great beer only available on draft, so get yours at your local Consumers growler station. A robust imperial stout brewed with English hops, chocolate malts, Oregon dark sweet cherries and love!
Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout: They use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specially roasted malts. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.
Southern Tier Choklat: Dark bitter chocolate aroma, roasty malts with a thick body and a good hop presence but has a sweet finish for an 11% ABV beer.
Young’s Chocolate Stout: Chocolate malt and real dark chocolate are combined with Young’s ward winning rich, full flavored dark beer to craft a satisfyingly indulgent, but never overwhelming sweet experience.
There are numerous chocolate beers out in the market, and I’ve only touched on some of the heavy hitters. This Valentine’s Day pick up one of these beers, and enjoy it with chocolate cake or your favorite dessert. If you’re feeling adventurous make a delicious beer float with some vanilla ice cream. Remember there’s no right or wrong way to drink a beer as long as you enjoy it!
As always these beers are available at your local Consumers Beverages location.
