A fresh snowfall calls for one of our favorite winter activities – sledding! It’s one of the best way to spend a snowy afternoon in Western New York. Plus afterward you get to go home and have the perfect excuse to make hot chocolate.
Our region is home to plenty of awesome public sledding hills, so grab your sled or tube and find one near you! Here is a list of sledding hills around WNY:

Arcade Park Sledding Hill

Grove St, Arcade, NY 14009 / INFO
According to Roughly 400 feet in length, illuminated at night, closes at 10pm daily and is open 7-days a week.

Akron Falls Park

44 Parkview Dr, Akron, NY 14001 / WEBSITE
Good for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding and ice skating. This park offers parking and multiple sledding hills. Open 10am – dusk.

Beaver Island State Park

2136 West Oakfield Road, Grand Island, NY 14072 / WEBSITE
Good for sledding, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Open from dawn to dusk.

Bond Lake Park

2571 Lower Mountain Rd. Ransomville, NY 14131 / WEBSITE
During the winter months the park offers a number of activities that are not available anywhere else in Niagara County. A well maintained and staffed Sledding Hill is open, weather permitting. The Sledding Hill is limited to plastic sleds and inflatable tubes only. The park also provides a large ice skating rink for family oriented skating as well as a smaller rink used exclusively for hockey. There are 13 miles of cross-country skiing trails that are groomed and cared for by our staff. Restroom facilities are available. The Warming House is open to the public when not rented for a private function.  Visitors are permitted to bring picnic style lunches.  No equipment rental is provided for any on site activities.  Sledding Hill conditions are recorded daily and can be accessed by calling (716) 731-3256.


Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens

2655 South Park Ave, Buffalo, NY 14218 / WEBSITE
Good for family friendly sledding, small hill.

Chestnut Ridge Park

6121 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Orchard Park, NY 14127 / WEBSITE
Offers an extra large hill for sledding, tobogganing (closed for 2020 season), snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.

Como Lake Park

2220 Como Park Blvd, Lancaster, NY 14086 / WEBSITE
In addition to sledding hills you’ll find cross-country ski trails and two ice skating rinks.

Delaware Park – Shakespeare Hill

Meadow Dr, Buffalo, NY 14214 / WEBSITE
Smaller hill, extremely family friendly

Ellicott Creek Park

1 Ellicott Creek Drive, Tonawanda, NY 14150 / WEBSITE
Sled hill, cross-country skiing (not groomed), and snowshoeing. Winter sports are available from 7:00 AM until dusk. For weekday winter sports/ activities updates, please call 858-8513.

Elma Meadows Golf Course and Park

1711 Girdle Rd, Elma, NY 14059 / WEBSITE
Hills and valleys available for sledding, snowboarding, tubing, and groomed cross-country trails. The sled hill is open 10:00AM- Dusk. XC skiing is open 9:00AM- Dusk. For weekday winter sports/ activities updates, call 858-8513.

Fairmount Park

6812 Nash Road, Wheatfield, NY 14120 / WEBSITE
Winter time brings cross-country enthusiasts to the park as well as sledders to it’s medium-sized hill on the grounds. No rental skates are available for the outdoor rink.


Fort Niagara State Park

Route 18F Youngstown, NY 14174 / WEBSITE
In winter, visitors can cross-country ski, snowshoe, and sled. The park is adjacent to Old Fort Niagara State Historic Site.

Woodlawn Avenue slopes down straight toward 18 Mile Creek. Gunther’s Hill offers sledding to all ages.

Sprague Brook

Cross-country skiing and snowshoe trekking are available daily from 7:00AM- dusk, and sledding is available daily 10:00AM- dusk. There are also designated snowmobile trails. For winter sports/ activities updates, please call 858-8513.

Reservoir State Park

5777 Witmer Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304 / WEBSITE
Winter visitors come to sled and cross-country ski. Part of the park is an overlook for the Robert Moses Power Plant Reservoir.
