New Year's Eve on a Budget, Buffalo NY, Step Out Buffalo
Celebrating with your favs – that’s what New Year’s Eve is all about. And once the holidays are over, you can finally drink to have fun, not just to tolerate all the holiday “cheer”. You deserve to kick off 2017 in the best way possible, so pull out your noisemakers and confetti poppers, throw on your best sequin dresses and suit up. There are tons of different ways to celebrate this NYE. Whether you’re looking for fancy, casual, musical, or just something cool to do, we’ve got your options covered.
Please remember to drink responsibly and always find a safe ride home. Happy New Year, Buffalo!

For a Punk Rock / PBR Kind of Night

We suggest: Emo Night New Year’s Eve Party
Location: Waiting Room – 334 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, NY 14202
Time: Doors – 9:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m., Open Bar – 9:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m.
Cost: $30
Let’s start with an alternative way to spend New Year’s Eve. For this one, you may want to put away your sequin dress and pull out your best plaid shirt or band tee and build up your PBR tolerance.
This New Year’s party is every punk fan’s dream come true, featuring punk and emo music from the past few decades. Guest hosts and DJs James Dewees of Reggie and the Full Effect, My Chemical Romance, and The Get Up Kids alongside Jeramiah Pauly of local punk stardom, Pentimento will make sure every punk and emo music lover hears their favorite songs. A special guest will be making an appearance too.
If the music wasn’t enough, there will be four hours of open bar including PBR, Bud/Bud Light, wine and well liquor, plus all the pizza (including vegan, because everyone’s included huys), and wings you could possibly ingest. Pizza, wings, beer, and music. What could possibly be better (added bonus for all the Buffalo sports fans) Rock on! This event is 21+.

For a Good Throwback Party

We suggest: New Year’s Eve Gypsy Ball
Location: Gypsy Parlor – 376 Grant St., Buffalo, NY 14213
Time: 8:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
Cost: Without dinner – $5, With dinner – $40
Gypsy Parlor is putting on an all-night party in true Buffalo bar fashion and will take you back in history for this one. The Fredtown Stompers will play jazz, big band, and swing music from the 1910s-1920s. If you’re into the sounds of shimmery brass and live instruments, then you’re in for an incredible musical experience. DJs will follow until 4:00 a.m. truly giving the night a full range of flair and energy. If this doesn’t get you in the mood to do Charleston steps all night and channel your inner flapper, I don’t know what will.
A champagne toast and prime rib buffet add to the night’s festivities making sure everyone gets their full NYE experience.

For a Family Fun NYE

We suggest: New Year’s Eve with ComedySportz
Location: Buffalo ComedySportz – 4476 Main St., Amherst, NY 14226
Time: first show – 7:30 p.m.-9:15 p.m., second show – 10:15 p.m.-midnight
Tickets: $9-$17
This event is for those who want a low-key, mild, but fun evening out with family and friends for plenty of laughs. ComedySportz is WNY’s longest-running comedy show, and will help you run into 2017. Come prepared with scene suggestions and watch two “teams” of “players” play competitive improvisational games while acting out scenes based on your very own suggestions. Two shows will be featured to ring into the new year, and you can celebrate the impending new year with the players. Start your year off with laughs and lighthearted fun! Of course the party isn’t over until there is a countdown with the comics, and everyone will be making plenty of uproar with their noisemakers.

For a Reason to Rock Out

We suggest: New Year’s Eve Party with Rusted Root and Funktional Flow
Location: Buffalo Iron Works – 49 Illinois St., Buffalo, NY 14203
Time: Doors – 8:00 p.m., Show – 9:00 p.m.
Cost: $30/advance, $35/day of show
Sometimes we’re feelin’ like we just need to dance around all night without the dinner and the formality. Iron Works is your go-to for this necessity, especially when Rusted Root is in town and playing a show with hometown funk extraordinaires, Funktional Flow. They’ll make sure you’re able to sing “Send me on my way” to an amazing new year! The vibes will be going on all night with a heavy dosage of chill music and dancing. This event is 21+.

For a True Buffalonian Experience

We suggest: New Year’s Eve Party
Location: Duke’s Bohemian Grove Bar – 253 Allen St., Buffalo, NY 14201
Time: 8:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
Cost: $30 surf and turf dinner
DBGB’s is known for its all-night parties and eclectic food and DJs, and of course NYE is no different. DJ Milk will guarantee to bring the party, as well as Cochise, Scott Down, Charles Masters, Basha, and Drop D, with Keith Concept hosting. Who doesn’t love a good surf and turf special and endless champagne fountain either? Also, we all know that a party on Allen doesn’t just end at one bar. After you’re done here, head on down the street and ring in the New Year like a true Buffalonian.

For Delicious Dining

We suggest: New Year’s Eve Party
Location: 31 Club – 31 N Johnson Park, Buffalo, NY 14201
Time: Seating available starting at 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., party goes 7:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.
Cost: $99/person
This is for the folks who want to get a little classy this NYE by splurging for a five-course dinner package. With options such as Escargot, Duck, Lobster Tail, and Veal Osso Bucco, foodies will feel the ultimate enjoyment. There are plenty of other food options as well, ensuring every palette is satisfied. Live entertainment will also be provided, as well as all the decoration fixings for your New Year’s pleasure.

For a Night that Won’t Break the Bank

We suggest: New Year’s Eve Party at Lockhouse
Location: Lockhouse Distillery – 41 Columbia St., Buffalo, NY 14204
Cost: $5, Black tie optional
Lockhouse has pizza parties and they are already beyond legit. (If you’ve never been to a Lockhouse pizza party it’s time to step up your game). Throw in an appetizer menu, champagne toast (with a second bar for easy champagne refills, whaddup), and you have an amazing night ahead of you. Lockhouse is throwing its Second Annual New Year’s Eve Party and this year it will be headlined by Frontstreet Men. Of course, the whole distillery space will be opened up beyond the barroom to make for one large and in charge party. And the $5 cover ain’t so bad either. There will be a special cocktail menu and bottle specials all night including Veuve Clicquot, Brotherhood Blanc de Blanc, and many more suave options.

For your Masquerade & Drag Desires

We suggest: Club Marcella’s New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball
Location: Club Marcella – 439 Pearl St., Buffalo, NY 14202
Time: 9:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m., drag show at 11:00 p.m.
Cost: 21+ is free admission before midnight and $10 after, under 21 is $10 before midnight and $20 after midnight
New Year’s is about being who you want to be and starting the year off on the right foot. Get loose at Marcella’s Masquerade Ball and be free to put on your favorite mask and dance the night away. And of course it wouldn’t be a party without Marcella’s signature drag show.

For your Traditional NYE Experience

We suggest: Tonawanda Castle 2016 NYE Celebration
Location: Tonawanda Castle – 69 Delaware St., Buffalo, NY 14150
Time: Doors open 7:30 p.m., Buffet dinner service at 8:30 p.m. Party goes until 12:30 a.m.
Cost: Pre-sale tickets – $39.95/person, $69.95/couple
Lastly, we have your traditional New Year’s Eve party option. When you picture NYE parties, you normally picture overflowing drinks, lots of food, and being dressed to the nines. If you’re looking to have a fun night in none other than a castle, dance party included, look no further than Tonawanda Castle. DJ Tony Romano will provide all the beats to keep the party going, and of course you’re going to want that bottomless drink package offered, instead of opting for a cash bar. (Is there really any other option? I mean, really.)
Of course, this is just a small sampling of the NYE options WNY has to offer, and there truly is an event out there for everyone. For more ideas check out our post on the Best NYE Parties in WNY. We want to make sure you all have a night to remember (or forget, if the bartenders bring their A game). Please remember to drink responsibly and always find a safe ride home. Enjoy!
