Waterfront Happy Hour @ Templeton Landing

Buffalo summers are slightly abbreviated. Not 1-2 weeks as some might suggest, but we still need to soak up the sunshine when available. Looking for something on the water, I planned to meet a friend at Templeton Landing for happy hour – an inviting outside bar with a fun atmosphere and world class view. No reasonable Buffalonian can turn down such an offer.

Walking out of the restaurant onto the patio, I saw at least a dozen tables right next to the water- an outside area that is sure to be filled on a hot, summer day. Approaching the bar, I was impressed with the layout-a square bar with enough seats and angles to be able to grab a drink while enjoying the view.

I told the bartender I wanted something refreshing and fruity. He came back with a Wildberry Mojito – absolutely delicious, and only $6 during happy hour. What’s better than a refreshing drink on the water that doesn’t break the bank? The “correct” answer is nothing.

After mentioning to the bartender that I’m more of a beer person but was feeling something fruity, he served up a sample glass of the Flower Power IPA with a water on the side to cleanse my palate. Really? Again, impressive. The Flower Power wasn’t exactly my cup of tea, too IPA for me but it sure was nice to try. The bartender added that they are restocking their draft beer to include more variety. I did notice a Blue Moon tap out of the corner of my eye – another great option for summer and usually my drink of choice.

A glance at the bar menu shocked me because my first thought of Templeton Landing rings $$. Not the case at the bar/happy hour. The menu was stacked with $1, $2, $3, $10, and 50% off options. We selected the cheese & pepperoni stick ringing in at $1 (yes $1), the spinach & artichoke dip ($5.50), a chicken quesadilla ($5.50) and a fish taco ($2) prepared Cajun style as per the recommendation of the extremely attentive, friendly bartender. Nothing’s worse than having to beg for bar service – not even close to the case here.

The fish taco was delicious, served with a side of blue & red chips. Did someone tell them the key to my heart was chips? Everything we ordered was absolutely spot-on, and we had no trouble clearing our plates. Who said two skinny girls can’t eat- when the food is this good and this inexpensive, why the hell not?

Just when we thought happy hour couldn’t get any better, a guy offered up Saranac Shandy samples. It really is just not right to say no to free beer. Ever.

Check out Templeton Landing for a great place to unwind after work. I know I’ll be returning frequently to get my fill of sunsets & free samples before summer’s out, and you should too. I promise you, it will not disappoint!
