As much as we love Buffalo, sometimes a change of scenery is much needed. If you’re looking for a little weekend getaway but you want somewhere a. driveable and b. that won’t break the bank, then we have the road trip for you.
The Eastview Mall/Rochester/Finger Lakes area is happening. With a huge mall for shopping (one of our favorite fall activities), beautiful fall foliage, gorgeous Finger Lakes and wineries, this place has it all. Here are our recommendations if you road trip to this area, complete with accommodations, a road trip map and places you just can’t miss.
How to get there
Be there in just under an hour and twenty minutes via the I-90, which is basically a straight line from Buffalo to Eastview Mall. Or, if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, take the scenic route and admire the gorgeous fall foliage. Just take Route 20 east, then the 390 up. To find your exact route, you can use their direction map here.
First Stop: Shop the day away at Eastview Mall
But first, shopping. The Eastview Mall has pretty much every store you could need which is why this is our first stop. Need a new cute sweater to wear to wine tastings? Check out the area’s only Von Maur or Madewell. Bring a kid or two with you? Take them to LEGO! Want some new beauty products like fall themed bath bombs or lotions? Lush and Crabtree and Evelyn have you covered. L.L. Bean is one of our favorites for outdoorsy gear, and they also offer discovery classes. You can go paddle boarding, kayaking, fly fishing or even do archery all with L.L. Bean. Here is their summer schedule. Looking for some workout gear or athlesisure? Stop by Athleta for great quality fitness attire and even better- a class or two. Athleta hosts fitness classes right in the mall. From upscale brands to department stores, this mall’s got it all. Check out a directory of all the shops here to plan your shopping strategy on the car ride there.
Next Stop: The Hotel Room (to drop off your bags, of course)
The Eastview Mall has some pretty sweet deals with local hotels. Stay at the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa for their special “Shop and Stay” package. Sound intriguing? Along with the room, the package includes an American Express gift card to be used for shopping, of course, breakfast for two, and nightly entertainment. The Woodcliff is a regional gem and you could even spend the day in the spa. A spa day might rival retail therapy in the relaxation department.
Looking for a cozier stay, something a little more unique? Stay at the Springdale Farm Bed and Breakfast. This charming B&B is located on a quaint farm just a couple miles from the mall, and they offer a 10% discount for guest rooms Monday-Thursday. Nothing will make you feel like you’re on a gorgeous getaway then staying at this adorable farm in the Finger Lakes.

Stop Three: Spend the day sippin’ wine at Casa Larga
This beautiful Finger Lakes winery is very close to the mall and we all know one of the only things better than shopping is, you guessed it, wine. Their tastings start at just $5 for five wines, and they have cheese boards and Hedonist chocolate to pair with them. They offer reds, whites, roses, and ice wines. The atmosphere? The Finger Lakes vineyards look like something out of a watercolor painting.
Last Stop: A Girl’s Gotta Eat
Eastview boasts many restaurant choices right in the mall. Biaggi’s is an Italian restaurant described as “a fun, casual, white tablecloth restaurant” with house-made pasta, soups and salads. In the mood for something else? Have some Asian cuisine at P.F. Chang’s or seafood at Bonefish Grill. Looking for lighter fare, or a baked good? Popular local Rochester cafe Village Bakery and Cafe has opened a location at Eastview so stop by for farm to table salads, soups and breakfast. Our pick? The brioche stuffed french toast (cream cheese, toasted almonds, seasonal fruit capote with pure NY maple syrup). Yum.
